Terms of Use

Last updated: May 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use form a binding agreement between you and Wassim Ansari (based in France), the operator of SPEEM ("we", "our", "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the SPEEM app or the speem.app website, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use SPEEM.

2. What SPEEM is

SPEEM is an iOS application that helps people build a daily learning habit, retain what they study, and prepare for exams, books, skills, projects, or courses. The app requires iOS 18 or later. Cross-device sync requires an iCloud account; SPEEM works fully on a single device without iCloud.

3. Who can use SPEEM

SPEEM is intended for students ages 11 and up (middle-school level and above). If you are under 13, or under the digital-consent age applicable in your country (up to 16 in some EU member states), you must have a parent or guardian's permission before using SPEEM, and a parent or guardian should complete the initial setup with you. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle children's data.

4. Pricing and SPEEM Pro

SPEEM offers a free experience and a paid Pro tier that unlocks the full feature set (unlimited habits, the full retention loop, unlimited missions and goals, detailed statistics, full Calcifer evolution, premium cosmetics, and ambient themes). Pricing, billing cadence, and any introductory offers are set in the App Store and may change. The price and terms displayed by Apple at the moment of your purchase are the ones that apply to you.

Restore Purchases

If you reinstall the app or switch devices, your Pro entitlement restores automatically via StoreKit. You can also tap "Restore Purchases" on the paywall screen at any time.

Payments, refunds, and billing

All payments are processed by Apple via the App Store. We do not see your credit card or payment details. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, in accordance with Apple's refund policies. We cannot process refunds on Apple's behalf but will assist with Apple correspondence on request.

5. EU consumer rights, right of withdrawal for digital content

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you normally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital content purchases under Directive 2011/83/EU. By completing your SPEEM Pro purchase through the App Store and beginning to use Pro features immediately, you expressly consent to immediate performance of the contract and acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once performance begins. This is standard Apple App Store practice and is disclosed by Apple at checkout.

Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence (for example, under the French Code de la consommation) remain unaffected.

6. What you can do

  • Use SPEEM for personal, non-commercial study purposes
  • Share screenshots of your progress, achievements, and streaks
  • Talk to us on the SPEEM forum or by email at [email protected]

7. What you can't do

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the app
  • Attempt to bypass the free-tier limits or purchase verification
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or its content
  • Use SPEEM in violation of export-control or sanctions laws

8. Your feedback and user content

If you send us feedback (by email or through the public forum), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, modify, and distribute that feedback for the purpose of improving SPEEM. Public forum posts are public by nature. For private email feedback, we will never share your identity publicly; if we ever quote a message (for example in release notes), the quote will be anonymous and stripped of identifying context.

9. Study aid, not a substitute

SPEEM is a learning-habit and retention tool. It helps you plan, review, and remember, it does not replace your teacher, textbook, or exam syllabus. Curriculum templates, prompts, and recommendations in SPEEM may not perfectly match every program. Always verify important facts against your official source material. We are not liable for any academic, professional, or other decision you make based on content surfaced in the app.

10. Intellectual property

SPEEM, its code, design, graphics, Calcifer mascot, brand name, and logos, is owned by Wassim Ansari and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right or license to use our trademarks. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on SPEEM without our written permission.

Content you create inside SPEEM (your notes, missions, recall items, and study data) belongs to you.

11. Account deletion

You can delete your SPEEM account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your backend data, instructs SwiftData to delete local records, and removes iCloud records owned by your Apple ID. Deletion is immediate and irreversible; we retain only minimal records required by law (e.g., tax receipts from Apple for purchases).

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for users who violate these Terms, attempt to defraud the in-app purchase system, harass others, or otherwise behave in a way that damages SPEEM or its users. Where possible we will warn you first; for egregious violations we may suspend immediately.

13. Service changes and continuity

SPEEM is actively developed. We may add, change, or remove features as the app evolves. We will never remove features explicitly promised as part of your Pro purchase without providing an equivalent replacement. Non-core features may be discontinued with disclosure in release notes.

14. Apple's role (iOS platform notice)

SPEEM is distributed via the Apple App Store. These Terms are between you and Wassim Ansari, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or any claims relating to it, but Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you as a user. Apple's standard End User License Agreement also applies to your installation.

15. Accessibility

We design SPEEM with Apple's accessibility APIs in mind (Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Reduce Motion, sufficient color contrast). If you encounter an accessibility issue, email [email protected] and we will prioritize a fix.

16. Disclaimer of warranties

SPEEM is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, freedom from errors, or suitability for any specific educational outcome. Your academic performance depends on many factors beyond the app's control.

17. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of SPEEM. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us for SPEEM Pro in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory consumer law in your country.

18. Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of France. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of French courts, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, in which case those rights remain unaffected. We do not require you to submit to arbitration; you retain the right to bring individual claims before any court of competent jurisdiction.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, announce them in the app's release notes and (where legally required) by email or in-app notice. Continued use of SPEEM after a change means you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, delete the app.

20. Contact

Questions, disputes, or legal notices: [email protected]. Written mail: SPEEM, Wassim Ansari, France (full address on request).
